Research on Genre - Music Magazine - Contents page

I am going to analyse three contents pages associated with hip-hop genre. The reason for doing so, is to gain some understanding and knowledge on the codes and conventions and the furniture that make a magazine into a hip/hop magazine. When I create my contents page, this analysis will be very useful, as I will be able to revert back and use the aspects that I highlighted, in order to improve my work and make it stronger. I have commented and highlighted the other factors that improve the magazine, other than the codes and conventions,so that I can improve my work further. Now these evaluations have been completed, I feel that I have a much better understanding of the codes and conventions that are used to create an effective hip/hop contents page, which I will use in my own magazine, to make it look as strong, professional and resemble the hip/hop genre to the best of my ability.

Below is the analysis for the three hip/hop double page spreads:

From the research I have completed on the codes and conventions of a hip/hop contents page, there are some key factors that must be incorporated in order to create a professional, easy to read, effective contents page, that resembles the hip/hop genre. Some of these key components, include having a key image that takes up the majority of the page, with the model having a stern look on his face, looking towards the audience. Unlike other contents pages, the hip/hop contents page that I have looked at, seem to lack other images, instead one image of the model from the cover, takes up the room. A small indication, either a small logo or the first letter of the magazine, there is a sign of the magazine, somewhere on the page. The body language that the model is using, is extremely important and I will have to take great care during photography. Like any contents page, there are headings, page numbers and an explanation. These are all in different fonts styles, sizes and colours. What links this with the hip/hop genre, is that all of these are generally down the right side of the page. When creating my contents page, these are the codes and conventions that I will apply in order to create an effective, professional and attractive product that reflects the hip/hop genre.

Research on Genre - Music Magazine - Cover Page

Now that I have completed my analysis of what codes and conventions make a magazine cover, contents and double page spread. I am now going to look what codes, conventions and other aspects are used to create a successful and effective hip/hop magazine cover, contents and double page spread. I am going to be focusing on the font styles, the colours, the key images and the way that these components have been placed, in order to create an attractive layout. When creating my magazine, these evaluations will be very useful, as I will be able to see what aspects improved the magazines and apply them to my magazine. I am going to be analysing three music cover pages and highlighting what aspects improve them. After completing the analysis, I have a much better understanding of what makes a good hip/hop cover page.

Below is my analysis and evaluations of three music cover pages:

From the research I have completed on the codes and conventions on a hip/hop cover page, there are some key factors that must be incorporated, in order to create a professional, easy to read, effective hip-hop related genre cover page. Some of these key components include, having the models in the key images looking towards the audience and having the key image take up the majority of the page, which are two things I will definitely keep in mind when taking my photos. The model covers a section of the masthead. The font for the masthead, headings and sometimes tag lines, use big bold font, which is iconic to the hip-hop genre.  When creating my hip-hop cover page, these are the codes and conventions that I will apply in order to create an effective, professional and attractive product.

Research - Music magazine - codes and conventions of a double page spread

I am going to analyse three double page spreads, in order to gain some understanding and knowledge on the codes and conventions that make up a double page spread. When I create my double page spread, this analysis will be very useful, as I will be able to revert back and use the aspects that I highlighted, in order to improve and make my magazine stronger. I have commented and highlighted the other factors that improve the magazine, other than the codes and conventions, so that I can improve my work further. Now these evaluations have been completed, I feel that I have a much better understanding of the codes and conventions that are used to create an effective double page spread, which I will use in my own magazine, to make it look as strong and professional as possible.

Below are my three double page spreads, that I have analysed and evaluated:

From the research I have completed on the codes and conventions of a normal double page spread, there are some key factors that must be incorporated in order to create a professional, easy to read, effective double page spread. Some of these key components include, having the models in the key images looking towards the audience and having the key image take up half of the double page spread, which are two things I will definitely keep in mind, when taking my photos. The borders that I set up have to be kept in, when dealing with copy, in order to create a neat and easy to read double page spread. The headings, subheadings and copy being different fonts styles, sizes and sometimes colours, all fit into the code and conventions.  When creating my double page spread, these are the codes and conventions that I will apply in order to create an effective, professional and attractive product.

Research - Music magazine - codes and conventions of a contents page

I am going to analyse three contents pages, in order to gain some understanding of the codes and conventions of a normal contents page in a magazine. When I create my magazine, this analysis will be useful, as I will be able to revert back and use the aspects that I highlighted. I have already completed analysing the codes and conventions of contents pages in my preliminary task. However, in order to get a better understanding of a magazines' codes and conventions, I used those from the preliminary task and improved on them. I have also commented and highlight on other factors that improve the magazine. After the analysis has been completed, I feel that I have a much better understanding of the codes and conventions that are used to create a magazine, which I will use in my own magazine, to make it look as professional and as neat as possible.

Below is the analysis of three contents pages:

From the research I have completed on the codes and conventions of a normal contents page, there are some key factors that must be incorporated, in order to create a professional, easy to read and effective contents page. Some of these key factors include, having the models in the key images looking towards the audience, which is something I will definitely keep in mind, when taking my photos. The borders that I set up, have to be kept in, in order to create a neat and easy to read contents page. The headings, page numbers and information have to use different font styles and sizes, maybe even contrasting colours, to follow a contents pages conventions. The headings are usually in bold to make them stand out, which is something that I am going to experiment with in my own contents page. There is always a small caption below each heading which tells the reader what to expect on that page. When creating my contents page, these are the codes and conventions that I will apply, in order to create an effective, professional and attractive product.

Research - Music magazine - codes and conventions of a cover page

In order to understand the common codes and conventions of a magazine I have analysed three different magazine covers. I have conducted this analysis so that I can apply what I learn to my music magazine. I have already completed research on the codes and conventions of a cover page on the previous task. I am however going to evaluate them again and try to improve them, which would widen my knowledge of codes and conventions. With the previous prelim task's analysis and the improved ones, I feel I will be able to use this new knowledge and apply them correctly and affectively to my music magazine cover. I have also analsised other aspects that improve the cover page to make it more attractive to the audience.

Below are the improved analysed covers:

After conducting the analysis, I have noticed that some of the key aspects that make up the codes and conventions of a magazine. These key features include using key images as the focal point for the audience and then use this to put the cover lines and the lures around. The model that I am using, must be looking towards the audience, which I think makes the audience more inclined to buy the magazine. I must use a variety of colours and fonts in order to attract the audience; I must also avoid leaving dead space which makes pages look unattractive. I must also stick to the margin lines that I create; this will make the magazine look neat and professional. When creating my magazine, I am going to try and use all of these codes and conventions, which means that my magazine should look neat and professional.
